FLYING OBJECT SHATTERS SUV SUNROOF IN FRIGHTENING INCIDENT

A Conception Bay South resident is seeking dashcam footage after a large object came from a commercial dump truck and struck their SUV while travelling along Peacekeepers Way Sunday morning.

According to the resident, the incident happened at approximately 11:20 a.m. on August 2nd near the bend by Three Island Pond. Both vehicles were travelling west toward Conception Bay South, with the resident’s silver SUV in the left lane and a maroon-coloured dump truck in the right lane.

The resident says a dark-coloured, irregularly shaped object came from the top or mid-section of the dump truck and travelled through the air before striking the SUV’s sunroof. The impact shattered the sunroof.

The resident said they attempted to alert the truck driver by using their horn while driving alongside and then behind the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. The dump truck eventually moved into the left lane.

The resident continued toward the Fowler’s Road exit, saying their child was inside the vehicle and was frightened by the incident.

The resident has reported the incident to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and says they have also reached out to the Department of Transportation and local construction companies that may allegedly own the vehicle.

The resident stated that they were informed the RNC and Department of Transportation would not investigate the incident further, while local companies were also not investigating because no available video footage had been provided.

The resident is now seeking the licence plate number of a dump truck that was travelling on Peacekeepers Way from the Trans-Canada Highway Cloverleaf toward the area of the Lawrence Pond construction site in Conception Bay South.

They are also asking anyone who was travelling in the area around the time of the incident and may have dashcam footage or other information to come forward.

The resident says the incident could have turned tragic and is hoping someone may have captured the vehicle or the incident on camera.
