WOMAN CAUGHT TRAVELLING 58 KM/H OVER LIMIT IN CONSTRUCTION ZONE

(Oct 23rd)
A 68-year-old woman had her vehicle seized and her driver’s licence suspended after being caught travelling 58 km/h over the posted speed limit in a construction zone on the Trans-Canada Highway near Adeytown.
Around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, a Clarenville RCMP officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed through the construction zone.
Radar confirmed the vehicle was travelling at 108 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
The driver was stopped and issued a ticket for excessive speed. Her licence was suspended, and her vehicle was seized and impounded.
Police remind motorists that construction zone speed limits and traffic control measures remain in effect whenever signage is displayed, regardless of whether workers are present or visible.
Construction zones can contain hazards such as heavy equipment, uneven road surfaces, narrowed lanes and modified traffic patterns. Excessive speed increases the risk of collisions and serious injuries by reducing reaction time and increasing stopping distances.
