WOMAN TICKETED IN TORBAY, ARRESTED AN HOUR LATER FOR VEHICLE THEFT

(Nov 1)

A 56-year-old woman was arrested in Torbay on Halloween night after police discovered that a vehicle she had been driving had been reported stolen.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on October 31, RNC officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Torbay.

Officers located the vehicle parked behind a business and determined that the woman was not impaired. However, she was issued a ticket for driving without a valid driver’s licence.

Just over an hour later, at approximately 10:13 p.m., police received a call from a man reporting that he discovered that his vehicle had been stolen.

An officer who had responded to the earlier impaired driving complaint recognized the vehicle description. The officer immediately returned to the business and located the same 56-year-old woman sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

The woman was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and transported to the St. John’s lockup.
