DANGEROUS DRIVING ENDS IN CRASH, ABANDONED TRUCK & ARREST IN PARADISE

(Oct 29th)
A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with numerous driving offences following a multi-vehicle collision in Paradise on Thursday morning.
At approximately 11:35 a.m., emergency crews were called to the intersection of Topsail Road and Paradise Road, where multiple vehicles had sustained damage.
According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), Operational Patrol Services officers had observed a male operating a vehicle in a dangerous manner on Paradise Road around 11:30 a.m. Officers did not initiate a traffic stop due to concerns for public safety.
Police searched the area and located the truck abandoned on Topsail Road after it had collided with two vehicles. As officers searched for the driver, he returned to the truck and attempted to flee before being arrested without incident.
Thirty-six-year-old Chad Quilty has been charged with dangerous operation, two counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and breach of a release order. He was also issued several summary offence tickets.
The vehicle was seized, and Quilty was held to appear in court.
The RNC continues to urge the public to report dangerous or impaired driving directly to police by calling 911.
