(Nov 8th)

Today, November 8th, marks Indigenous Veterans’ Day, a day to recognize and honour the courage, service and sacrifices of Indigenous Peoples who have served in the Canadian military.

For generations, thousands of Indigenous men and women have served our country through the First and Second World Wars, the Korean Conflict, peacekeeping missions and other military operations.

Many faced additional challenges while answering the call to serve, including travelling great distances from remote communities, learning new languages and adapting to unfamiliar cultures.

Despite these challenges, Indigenous service members have made significant contributions to Canada’s military history and continue to serve today.

As we approach Remembrance Day, we take this opportunity to remember those who served, honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice and recognize the Indigenous veterans whose contributions are an important part of Canada’s history.

To all Indigenous veterans, past and present, thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Lest We Forget.
