MAN FACES POTENTIAL IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

A 48-year-old Eastport man faces potential impaired driving charges after Glovertown RCMP stopped his vehicle late Friday night in Traytown.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on September 4, Glovertown RCMP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Main Street North in Glovertown. The caller reported that a vehicle was being driven erratically, prompting officers to immediately begin patrols in the area.

Police located the described vehicle and stopped it on the main road in Traytown. Officers determined that the driver had a suspended licence and observed signs of possible drug impairment.

The man was arrested for impaired operation and transported to hospital, where blood samples were collected. Police are awaiting the results of forensic blood analysis to determine whether impaired operation charges are appropriate.

The driver was also issued multiple tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for driving a vehicle with a suspended or cancelled licence, operating an unregistered or unlicensed vehicle, and operating a vehicle without a policy of insurance.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanked the motorist who reported the suspected impaired driver, noting that taking action and reporting the concern may have prevented a tragedy on the roads.

Police reminded the public that impaired drivers put themselves and others at increased risk of serious injury or death. Anyone who suspects a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
