MORE SKILLED TRADES OPPORTUNITIES COMING TO NL HIGH SCHOOLS

The Provincial Government is expanding skilled trades education in 21 high schools across Newfoundland and Labrador for the 2026-27 school year, giving more students an opportunity to explore careers in the trades.

Schools will receive an additional 6.25 to 12.5 hours of skilled trades teaching time each week, allowing more students to fit trades courses into their schedules.

Courses being expanded include Design and Fabrication, Skilled Trades, Residential Construction Technology, and Power and Energy.

The 21 schools receiving increased programming are:

• Elwood Regional High - Deer Lake

• Corner Brook Regional High - Corner Brook

• Discovery Collegiate - Bonavista

• Stephenville High - Stephenville

• Lewisporte Collegiate - Lewisporte

• Lakewood Academy - Glenwood

• Jane Collins Academy - Hare Bay

• Glovertown Academy - Glovertown

• Marystown Central High - Marystown

• Heritage Collegiate - Musgravetown

• Prince of Wales Collegiate - St. John’s

• Carbonear Collegiate - Carbonear

• Crescent Collegiate - Blaketown

• Holy Trinity High - Torbay

• Waterford Valley High - St. John’s

• Michael’s Regional High - Bell Island

• Catherine’s Academy - St. Catherine’s

• Exploits Valley High - Grand Falls-Windsor

• M. Olds Collegiate - Twillingate

• Pasadena Academy - Pasadena

• Indian River High - Springdale

Skilled trades courses have also been expanded to six additional rural schools through the Centre for Learning and Development Innovation.

Government says all skilled trades waitlists have now been eliminated, creating more opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the trades.

The province says the expansion is intended to help build Newfoundland and Labrador’s future skilled workforce as major projects including Bay du Nord, Churchill Falls and Gull Island are developed.
