PREMIER MEETS WITH INDUSTRY PARTNERS OVER U.S. TARIFF IMPACTS

Premier Tony Wakeham met with industry partners Wednesday to discuss the impacts ongoing trade uncertainty between Canada and the United States is having on Newfoundland and Labrador businesses, workers and consumers.

Wakeham was joined by Finance Minister Craig Pardy and Jobs, Growth and Rural Development Minister Lin Paddock.

According to the Provincial Government, discussions focused on rising costs, disruptions to North American supply chains and concerns surrounding the potential impact of tariffs on businesses and workers in the province.

Partners also discussed the need for federal response programs to be targeted and responsive to smaller, export-oriented provinces such as Newfoundland and Labrador.

The United States remains Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest individual export market, accounting for approximately 34 per cent of the province’s international merchandise exports in 2025.

The Provincial Government says it will continue working with industry, community and labour organizations while monitoring the effects of the ongoing Canada-U.S. trade situation.
