PROVINCE ANNOUNCES $1.4M FOR KIDS EAT SMART

(Oct 6th)
The Provincial Government has announced approximately $1.4 million in funding for the Kids Eat Smart Foundation to support school breakfast programs across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Paul Dinn announced the funding Tuesday during the launch of Kids Eat Smart Week at East Point Elementary in St. John’s.
Kids Eat Smart provides breakfast at no cost to families through 275 clubs operating in schools and community centres across the province.
The foundation says it serves approximately 47,000 breakfast meals every school day, amounting to roughly 6.3 million meals each school year.
Kids Eat Smart Executive Director Celina Stoyles said the foundation will receive $1,393,700 from the province toward its $5.8-million program.
The funding will help provide students with access to nutritious food at the beginning of the school day.
