SERIOUS SNOWMOBILE ACCIDENT; ONE PERSON SENT TO HOSPITAL

(April 11th) - At approximately 12:00 a.m. on April 11, Bay of Islands Search and Rescue (BOISAR) was dispatched by NL Health Services and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) to a serious snowmobile accident about 16 kilometres in on Logger School Road, west of Corner Brook.
Fifteen search and rescue members responded, setting up a staging area along the Trans-Canada Highway before travelling into the area by snowmobile.
Once on scene, crews provided first aid and secured the injured individual in a vacuum mattress. The patient was then transported out using a rescue boggan and brought to a waiting ambulance with assistance from NL Health Services, the individual was then transported to hospital.
BOISAR is wishing the individual a speedy recovery. The team also credited the patient’s travelling companions for quickly recognizing the seriousness of the situation and calling 911.
Thanks were also extended to the RNC, NL Health Services, and Rugged Edge, which attended overnight to provide additional snowmobiles to assist with the rescue.
