SEVEN SPEEDING TICKETS ISSUED DURING HIGHWAY BLITZ

Clarenville RCMP handed out seven speeding tickets during an afternoon traffic enforcement initiative on the Trans-Canada Highway and surrounding areas on Wednesday, July 22.

Between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., officers stopped five drivers travelling above the posted speed limit. Each driver was issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act and reminded of the dangers associated with excessive speed.

Earlier in the afternoon, two additional drivers were also stopped for speeding and issued tickets.

Along with enforcing speed limits, officers inspected vehicles to ensure they were safe to operate, confirmed seatbelts were being used, and verified that drivers had valid licences, insurance and vehicle registration.

The traffic blitz was part of a proactive highway enforcement initiative in Clarenville and the surrounding areas.

RCMP officers continue to conduct proactive patrols on roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador throughout the summer, focusing on dangerous driving behaviours including speeding, impaired driving and other factors commonly linked to serious motor vehicle collisions. Officers are also checking for seatbelt compliance and ensuring drivers and vehicles meet all legal requirements.

Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving or suspects a driver is impaired by drugs or alcohol is asked to call 911.
