SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ST. JOHN’S TOWER FIRES

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with two intentionally set fires involving communication towers in St. John’s.

The RNC and St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to several suspicious fires across the city this week, prompting an investigation into the incidents.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, July 20, officers responded to a fire at a communication tower on Nagle’s Place. The following day, on July 21, officers were called to a radio tower on Densmore’s Lane following reports of suspicious activity. Police located a recent fire scene at the location, which appeared to have extinguished without the need for fire services. Investigators determined that the fire had also occurred on July 20.

An investigative team was formed to look into the two fires. While no injuries were reported, the incidents resulted in significant structural damage.

On Wednesday, the RNC arrested a 30-year-old man and charged him with two counts of arson and two counts of mischief causing property damage. He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

The investigation into other related fires involving pole lines and communication towers remains ongoing.
