RNC AND HIGHWAY ENFORCEMENT CONDUCT COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SAFETY CHECKS

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) partnered with Highway Enforcement for a public awareness initiative aimed at increasing education and awareness surrounding commercial vehicle safety.

The joint initiative took place between July 16 and July 18 as part of Operation Safe Driver, a national campaign focused on motorcycle noise, commercial vehicle safety, and licensing and equipment compliance.

During the campaign, officers conducted multiple traffic safety checkpoints in areas that have generated a high number of complaints, including Waterford Bridge Road and the Outer Ring Road at East White Hills in St. John’s, as well as Kenmount Road in Paradise.

Police say there was a high level of compliance among motorists, with most infractions corrected at the roadside. However, tickets were issued for a number of offences, including insecure cargo, unregistered vehicles, invalid driver’s licences, and other licensing and registration violations.

The RNC is reminding the public to continue reporting dangerous or impaired drivers directly to police by calling 911.
