TWO NEWFOUNDLAND PLAYERS INVITED TO CANADA’S U-18 TRAINING CAMP

Two members of the Newfoundland Regiment have earned invitations to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team training camp.

Defenceman Quinn Norman and forward Ben Veitch will head west next week to compete for a spot on Canada’s roster for the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which will be held in Edmonton from August 3-8.

Veitch, a native of St. John’s, is coming off an impressive rookie season with the Regiment. He recorded 21 points, including 11 goals and 10 assists, during the regular season before adding another seven points (five goals, two assists) in Newfoundland’s playoff run.

Norman, who hails from Conception Bay South, was a key presence on the Regiment’s blue line throughout the 2025-26 season. He appeared in 58 regular season games, registering one goal and 12 assists for 13 points.

Both players are late 2009 birthdays, making them the youngest two skaters invited to the national camp. They are also the only forward and defenceman in the group who are eligible for the 2028 NHL Entry Draft.

The pair are no strangers to Hockey Canada’s national program. Last fall, Veitch and Norman played key roles for Team Canada Red, helping the team capture a gold medal at the 2025 U17 World Hockey Challenge in Truro.

Training camp begins next week as both Newfoundland Regiment players look to earn a place on Canada’s roster for the prestigious international tournament.
