(July 29th)

A 39-year-old Knight’s Cove man has been arrested after Bonavista RCMP say he was found violating court-imposed release conditions.

On Saturday, July 25th, police conducted a curfew check on Jonathan Peters and determined he was not complying with a release order requiring him to remain at his residence by a specified time each night.

Officers located Peters walking on a nearby road in the community and attempted to arrest him for the alleged breach. Police say Peters was uncooperative during the arrest, resisted officers, assaulted police members, and caused damage to the police vehicle used to transport him to the detachment.

Peters was held in police custody pending a court appearance on July 28, where he was scheduled to answer to charges including:

- Assault on a police officer

- Resisting/obstructing a peace officer

- Mischief (Damage to a motor vehicle)

- Failure to comply with release order conditions

The RCMP says officers across Newfoundland and Labrador regularly conduct checks to ensure individuals released from custody are following court-ordered conditions. Police say these checks are intended to help reduce repeat offences and enhance public safety.

Anyone with information that may assist police is asked to contact their local RCMP detachment.
