MAN CHARGED FOLLOWING DANGEROUS TCH INCIDENT

(Oct 29th)
A 47-year-old Stephenville man has been charged following an investigation into a dangerous driving incident on the Trans-Canada Highway near Route 460 in August.
Bay St. George RCMP confirmed on October 29 that the investigation resulted in a charge under the province’s Highway Traffic Act.
Police say the man has been charged with driving without due care and attention, contrary to Section 110(1)(b) of the Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Traffic Act.
The incident occurred on August 23, when a marked construction zone was in place near Route 460 in the Stephenville area as Department of Transportation and Infrastructure crews worked along the highway’s shoulder.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., dashboard camera footage captured a red pickup truck, believed to be a Ford F-150, entering the ditch on the westbound side of the Trans-Canada Highway at a high rate of speed.
The truck was recorded passing a vehicle parked on the shoulder while travelling through the ditch before re-entering the highway a short distance later. Construction crews in the area also reported that the truck knocked over a road sign.
Bay St. George RCMP initially asked the public for assistance in identifying the vehicle and driver. On August 26, police announced they had identified both, thanking the public for its attention and assistance.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador again thanked the public for its assistance with the investigation following the charge announcement on October 29.
