UPDATE: RCMP have issued a correction notice stating that “The driver’s licence of the 49-year-old Harbour Grace man was not suspended by police as previously reported. As a result of the traffic violations committed, he was issued multiple tickets under the Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Traffic Act and his vehicle was impounded.”

A 49-year-old man is without his driver’s licence and vehicle after being stopped by RCMP Traffic Services East in Harbour Grace.

On October 28, at approximately 11:00 a.m., an RCMP Traffic Services East officer conducting proactive traffic enforcement stopped a vehicle on Water Street.

During the stop, the officer confirmed the driver did not have a valid insurance policy and that the vehicle was not properly registered following its purchase.

The man’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was seized roadside by police and impounded.

He was issued tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance, and failing to notify the registrar of the transfer of ownership.

The RCMP is reminding drivers that they are required to have valid legal documentation, including a driver’s licence, vehicle registration and insurance, when operating a motor vehicle.

Anyone buying or selling a vehicle must also follow all requirements of the provincial Motor Registration Division.

The RCMP warns that drivers operating vehicles on Newfoundland and Labrador roadways without the proper documentation, licensing and registration may face penalties and legal consequences.
