Bay St. George RCMP arrested a 40-year-old Trout River man who was the subject of a province-wide warrant during a traffic stop in Stephenville Wednesday night.

On October 28, at approximately 9:00 p.m., an RCMP officer on patrol near the Stephenville Mall observed a vehicle on Queen Street being operated by a man known to police as a suspended driver.

The driver was unable to provide valid insurance or registration documents. Police confirmed that his driver’s licence was suspended and that he was the subject of an active warrant of arrest.

The man was taken into custody and later released to appear in provincial court at a future date.

He also received tickets for Highway Traffic Act violations. His uninsured and unregistered vehicle was seized by police and impounded.

RCMP officers proactively patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador to look for impaired drivers, check seatbelt use and ensure drivers and vehicles are operating safely and have the required documentation.

Motorists are reminded to drive safely, drive sober and ensure their driver’s licence, registration and insurance are up to date.
