(Oct 29th)

Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department and officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a small brush fire in a wooded area behind Saint Matthew’s Elementary on Cowan Avenue Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. on October 29th, crews were called to the area, where they located the fire just off a trail connecting the school parking lot to Cowan Park.

The fire was estimated to be no larger than five feet by five feet.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire using a portable water backpack and shovels before applying a small amount of water through an attack line to hose down the area.

RNC officers were also on scene investigating the matter.
