18-YEAR-OLD DRIVER CAUGHT AT 157 KM/H

(Oct 30th)
An 18-year-old man is without his licence and vehicle after being caught travelling 157 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone on the Trans-Canada Highway near Grand Falls-Windsor.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, RCMP Traffic Services Central received reports from several motorists about an eastbound vehicle travelling erratically and at a high rate of speed through the Grand Falls-Windsor area.
Officers located the described vehicle and used radar to confirm it was travelling 157 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped, and the 18-year-old driver was ticketed for excessive speed. His driver’s licence was suspended roadside, and the vehicle was seized and impounded by police.
The RCMP reminds motorists that excessive speed is one of the most common contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions, warning that the extra minute or two saved by speeding is not worth the potential consequences.
Officers with RCMP Traffic Services conduct proactive patrols throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, targeting dangerous driving, speeding, impaired driving and other factors contributing to serious collisions. Patrols also include checking seatbelt use and ensuring drivers and vehicles have the appropriate documentation.
