Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover on the Trans-Canada Highway eastbound near Soldiers Pond on Saturday morning (Oct. 31), Halloween Day.

Just before 12:00 p.m., personnel from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and NL Health Services were dispatched to the scene between the Butter Pot and Foxtrap Access Road interchanges, just outside St. John’s.

Upon arrival, first responders located a pickup truck that had left the roadway and travelled down an embankment. Paramedics and police were already attending to the two occupants when firefighters arrived. One individual was placed onto a rescue board and, with assistance from firefighters using an extension ladder, was carried up the embankment to the shoulder of the highway.

The injured individual was then transferred onto a stretcher and placed into an ambulance before being transported to hospital with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The second occupant of the pickup truck appeared to be unharmed.

The eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near Soldiers Pond were reduced to one lane while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene.

There was a significant build-up of water on the roadways at the time of the collision, and the pickup truck sustained extensive damage.
