Emergency crews responded to a workplace accident at a business in Mount Pearl Wednesday morning that resulted in one worker being sent to hospital.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. on May 20, firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, along with personnel from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and NL Health Services, were called to Kent Building Supplies on Old Placentia Road following reports of a workplace accident.

The incident occurred in the lumber yard area while vehicles were lined up to exit. According to an SJRFD Platoon Chief, a driver waiting in line accidentally left the van they were operating, in gear, causing the vehicle to move forward unexpectedly. At the time, a worker was positioned between two vehicles and became briefly pinned after the van rolled forward into another truck.

Emergency crews arrived to find the injured worker between both of the vehicles. Firefighters and paramedics assessed the individual at the scene before placing the worker onto a stretcher and transporting them to hospital. The worker’s injuries are believed to be minor in nature.

More information will be released once available.
