A youth was transported to hospital with unknown injuries Wednesday afternoon after an electric scooter and a minivan collided on Holden Street in Mount Pearl.

Emergency crews, including personnel from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD), Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and NL Health Services, were called to the scene near the intersection of Lady Anne Place around 4:40 p.m. on October 28.

Upon arrival, first responders located an injured person on the ground, with the electric scooter wedged underneath the minivan.

Firefighters and paramedics assessed the individual at the scene before placing them on a stretcher and loading them into an ambulance. An SJRFD captain confirmed to NFLD Bulletin that one youth was being transported to hospital after being struck by the vehicle. The severity of the youth’s injuries were unknown at the time.

Police held the collision scene while Holden Street, near Lady Anne Place and Farrell Drive, was closed as officers awaited the arrival of the RNC’s Accident Investigations Unit.

Upon arrival, officers were observed marking tire marks and the vehicle’s final stopping position, as well as photographing the scene as part of their investigation.

Holden Street was cleared and reopened shortly after the on-scene investigation was completed.
