A major infrastructure project is coming to Marystown following the awarding of a $23.47-million contract to replace the community’s aging Harbour Bridge, commonly known as the Canning Bridge.

Trident Construction Limited has been awarded the multi-year contract, which will involve extensive reconstruction in the Marystown harbour area.

As part of the project, crews will construct a new two-span concrete bridge along with a new long-span underpass at Ville Marie Drive.

The work will also include improvements to surrounding infrastructure, including roadway reconstruction, new sidewalks, drainage upgrades, retaining walls, signage and guiderails.

The Newfoundland and Labrador government says the project is expected to improve safety, reliability and transportation capacity through the harbour area.

The Canning Bridge is an important connection for the community, providing transportation access for residents, businesses and visitors, as well as those travelling to employment, education, health care and other essential services.

Construction is expected to continue over multiple years, with the project substantially completed by August 2028.
