(Aug 24th)
Two people were transported to hospital Monday afternoon after an SUV left the roadway and crashed into the Buckmasters Community Centre in St. John’s.
The collision occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. on August 24th, when emergency crews were called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash.
When first responders arrived, they located the injured driver of the SUV, along with an individual who was inside the community centre at the time of the collision.
Firefighters quickly assessed the situation and secured the corner of the structure to help prevent any potential collapse. Crews also used blocks of wood to stabilize the vehicle and prevent it from moving from its position.
The collision caused extensive damage to both the SUV and the community centre.
Officers with the RNC’s Accident Investigations Unit attended the scene and conducted an on-site investigation. The investigation included documenting the crash scene through markings, spray paint and photographs.
An RNC Sergeant at the scene confirmed that details remain limited as the investigation continues; however both the driver and the individual who was inside the building were transported to hospital with what is believed to be minor injuries.
More information will be provided if necessary.
