St. John’s, NL – Firefighters with the St. John's Regional Fire Department responded to a residential fire on Chafe Avenue in Shea Heights late Wednesday night.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on July 23, crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke inside the home. Following a brief investigation, firefighters located a small fire in the basement, which was unfinished and awaiting further work. The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the basement area.

Smoke had spread throughout the residence, and fire crews used a fan to ventilate the home. According to fire officials, the basement sustained fire and water damage, while the rest of the house experienced minor smoke damage.

Two residents were displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Emergency personnel from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), NL Health Services (NLHS), and NL Power also responded to the scene. Chafe Avenue was temporarily closed while emergency services cleared the area.
