The City of St. John’s has issued an update on snow clearing efforts, service changes, and facility operations following the recent winter weather.
City facilities will open at 10:00 a.m., with the exception of the Southlands and Kilbride Lions Community Centres, which will open at 2:00 p.m.
Early morning lane and leisure swims scheduled for 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19 at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre and H.G.R. Mews Community Centre have been cancelled due to weather conditions.
Snow clearing remains ongoing across the city. All streets are expected to be cleared by 4:00 p.m. today. Roads and sidewalks are completed based on priority order.
Snow removal and street widening will be required in all areas. That work is expected to begin in the coming days, weather permitting, and will take some time to complete. The City advises there is no need to call to request street widening or snow removal, as crews are working through areas based on priority.
Waste collection has also been adjusted:
- Collection originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 18 will now take place Friday, February 20.
- Collection originally scheduled for Thursday, February 19 will now take place Saturday, February 21.
- Collection scheduled for Friday, February 20 will proceed as planned.
Residents are advised that pickup times may be later than usual due to the schedule changes. Waste must not be placed on top of snowbanks and must be set at street level in a clearly accessible location.
The Weather-Related Parking Ban outside the Designated Downtown Area and Business District came into effect at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, and was lifted 7:30a.m. this morning.
Sidewalk clearing is also ongoing. Many areas will require large snow blowers or snow removal operations, and it may take longer than five days to complete all routes. Crews will continue focusing on priority locations.
