Whitbourne RCMP arrested a 54-year-old Dildo man Monday night in connection with an incident last week involving an off-road motorcycle and an alleged failure to stop for police.
Just before 8:00 p.m. on August 13, a Whitbourne RCMP officer on patrol was flagged down by a concerned resident who reported an off-road motorcycle being driven dangerously along Front Road in Dildo.
The officer located the described dirt bike and observed it being operated by an individual who was prohibited from driving anywhere in Canada.
Police attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to concerns for public and police safety.
On August 17 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Whitbourne RCMP responded to another driving complaint involving the same individual, who was reportedly operating a vehicle along Anderson Cove Road toward New Harbour.
Police conducted patrols and later located and arrested 54-year-old Barry Martin at a residence in the community.
Martin was released and is expected to appear in court in September 2026. He faces Criminal Code charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
His vehicle was seized and impounded by police.
