Just after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to a major blaze on Carrick Drive in the east end of the city.
Upon arrival, crews found one home fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke pouring from the structure and fire breaking through the roof. A vehicle in the driveway was also on fire. The intense heat and flames spread to a neighboring house, causing damage to the home and displacing a second family.
Firefighters attacked the blaze using three hose lines and the department’s ladder truck. Despite efforts, the primary home was completely destroyed. The adjacent home sustained significant damage, but crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The families from both homes have been displaced with the status of any injuries unknown.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
