At approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning, Gander Fire Rescue was dispatched to a camper fire at the County Inn trailer park.
Upon arrival, fire crews found two campers fully engulfed in flames, with the fire actively spreading to nearby units. Despite challenging conditions and no fire hydrants in the immediate vicinity, Gander Fire Rescue responded quickly, utilizing three pumpers to shuttle water to the scene.
In total, six campers were lost in the blaze. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire and successfully prevented it from reaching the nearby wooded area.
Gander Fire Rescue commended their team for their strong response and teamwork under pressure. “Our firefighters did an excellent job and cut the fire off before it got into the wooded area. Great job everyone,” the department stated.
Support was also provided by Gander Municipal Enforcement, Gander RCMP, NL Health Services, and the Department of Forestry.
