Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Basement Fire at St. John's Home

On August 6th, Firefighters with the St. John's Regional Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire Wednesday afternoon in the Kenmount District of St. John's.

The call came in shortly after 2:30 p.m., reporting a fire at a home on Weymouth Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found the basement of the residence filled with smoke and an active fire burning around some furniture. Firefighters deployed an attack line and quickly brought the fire under control. Once the flames were knocked down, crews worked to ventilate the home using a specialized fan to clear out the smoke.

A Platoon Chief with the St. John's Regional Fire Department confirmed at the scene that the fire was confined to the basement near the furniture. The entire home had filled with smoke, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
