Mount Pearl, NL – September 8, 2025 — A structure fire in Mount Pearl has displaced four people after flames broke out in a residential home early Monday evening.

Firefighters with the St. John's Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) responded to the blaze just after 6:00 p.m. on Burrage Avenue at the corner to Pittman Place. Upon arrival, crews encountered visible smoke and flames coming from the residence.

The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen of an upstairs apartment. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, successfully containing it to the kitchen area. However, heavy smoke spread throughout the home causing smoke and water damage throughout.

As a result, four individuals have been displaced — one from the upstairs unit, one from a downstairs apartment, and two more from a separate downstairs apartment. Newfoundland Power has cut electricity to the building as a precautionary measure. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and NL Health also attended to the scene..

No injuries were reported. All residents were safely out of the home before emergency crews arrived. One pet was also confirmed safe.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
