MAN FOUND DEAD NEAR BELL ISLAND AIRSTRIP

A 58-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle crash near the Bell Island airstrip, and RCMP are asking the public for information as they continue to investigate the incident.
Bell Island RCMP responded to a report of the crash at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29. When officers arrived, they located the 58-year-old man deceased near the vehicle.
Later that afternoon, local RCMP officers, Police Dog Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended the scene, prompting a public advisory asking residents to avoid the area while the investigation was underway.
Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged.
Investigators are asking anyone in the community with information, or surveillance or dash camera footage that may assist the investigation, to contact Bell Island RCMP at 709-488-3312.
To respect the privacy of the deceased and his loved ones, RCMP said no further details are being released at this time.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador has extended its condolences to the family, friends and community of the deceased during this difficult time.
