Massive Fire Destroys Welding Shop in Donovans Industrial Park
Mount Pearl, NL - June 23, 2025 - A commercial structure fire tore through a welding shop in Donovans Industrial Park early Monday morning, prompting a significant response from fire crews and road closures due to dangerous conditions.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department received the call just before 7:00 AM. When crews arrived on scene at the business located on Kyle Avenue, they were met with heavy smoke and flames pouring from the structure.
The situation quickly escalated due to the presence of gas canisters inside the building, which began exploding, forcing firefighters to stay outside and combat the blaze using defensive tactics. Thick smoke drifted across nearby Sagona Avenue, prompting the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary to close the road for public safety.
It was reported that someone had been living in a portion of the building, but they were not inside at the time and were confirmed to be uninjured. No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters battled the flames using exterior hose lines and aerial operations to contain the fire. The building sustained extensive damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
