Mattress Fire Causes Temporary Disruption at Wiseman Centre in St. John’s

Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) responded to a reported structure fire Saturday afternoon (Feb 7), at The Salvation Army Wiseman Centre on Water Street in downtown St. John’s
Shortly before 4:00 p.m., crews were called to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters located a mattress on fire inside one of the building’s rooms.
Fire crews quickly prevented the spread of the fire and extinguished it using a dry chemical fire extinguisher. An official with the SJRFD confirmed the blaze was contained to the room of origin.
Operations inside the building were temporarily disrupted but resumed shortly after the fire was extinguished and crews gave the all clear.
Officials also confirmed no one was displaced and no injuries were reported.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is investigating the incident
