Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night (Nov. 19), firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) responded to a vehicle fire on the Trans-Canada Highway, commonly known as the Outer Ring Road. The incident occurred between the Pitts Memorial Drive/Peacekeepers Way interchange and the Kenmount Road exit.
Upon arrival, crews found a minivan fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke pouring from the vehicle. Firefighters quickly deployed and charged an attack line, using foam to knock down the fire within minutes.
According to a fire department official, the driver reported smelling smoke while travelling. After pulling over, the vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames.
The highway was temporarily closed to traffic as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. Once the fire was under control, the roadway reopened to one lane of travel
