Nine people have been displaced following a residential kitchen fire in Mount Pearl late Friday morning.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 13, firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) responded to reports of a structure fire at a home on Gillespie Place. They were assisted at the scene by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and NL Health Services
When crews arrived, smoke was visible coming from the residence and an active fire was located in the kitchen area.
Firefighters quickly deployed an attack line and entered the home to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. The fire was knocked down in short order, and crews then conducted overhaul operations to check for any remaining fire or hidden hotspots.
A fire department official confirmed the blaze was contained to the kitchen. While the area sustained extensive damage, no injuries were reported.
However, the fire has left nine residents displaced.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
