Police Investigating Early-Morning Crash on Moss Heather Drive; Occupants Reportedly Fled the Scene

St. John’s, NL – July 6, Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on Moss Heather Drive, just off Thorburn Road.


Emergency crews responded to the incident at approximately 12:25 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle that had collided with a light pole. Firefighters with the St. John's Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) were first to arrive on the scene. They discovered a sedan that had struck a light pole, which was then pushed into a truck parked in a nearby driveway.


Witnesses reported seeing a male and female fleeing the scene on foot. A short time later, the two individuals were reportedly stopped by Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) officers in front of a business on Thorburn Road.


An officer from the RNC’s Police Dog Services was deployed to assist with locating the individuals and any evidence that may have been discarded in the area. During the investigation, officers located a large knife on the ground near the crash site. The knife has been taken into evidence.


The RNC’s Forensics Identification Section was also called to the scene to document the crash and gather any relevant evidence.


The vehicle involved sustained extensive damage in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing
