Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP is investigating a possible case of animal cruelty after a deceased dog was discovered in the water near Route 470 outside Port aux Basques
Police received a report on Thursday, June 11, regarding the discovery of a small breed dog in a lake located approximately two kilometres outside the town. Officers attended the scene and confirmed the animal was deceased.
Investigators determined that the dog was wearing a collar; however, no identification tag was attached that could help identify either the animal or its owner.

RCMP are seeking to identify and speak with the dog’s owner and are asking anyone who may have information about the animal or the events leading up to its death to come forward.
The investigation remains ongoing.
