Mount Pearl, NL — July 20, 2025 — Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department quickly responded to and extinguished two separate brush fires in the Mount Pearl area on Sunday.

The first fire broke out in a wooded area of Pearlgate East Park, off Emerald Drive in Mount Pearl. Fire crews arrived quickly and deployed an attack line to tackle the growing blaze. The fire, which was approximately fifty square feet in size, was brought under control without any further escalation.

Shortly afterward, a second fire was reported on an off-road trail just off Heavy Tree Road, between Pitts Memorial Drive and near Lester's Farm Market. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered moderate flames beginning to climb nearby trees. An attack line was again deployed, and the fire was brought under control quickly.

The Department of Forestry also responded to the second incident, bringing two forestry trucks. Forestry crews began pumping water from a nearby river to thoroughly water down the affected area.
