Just after 7 p.m, St. John’s Regional Fire Department crews responded to a vehicle fire on Cherokee Drive in Airport Heights.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy flames coming from the front end and engine compartment of an SUV. The vehicle was fully involved, and was completely destroyed.

One resident who heard the incident unfold described the moment surrounding the fire.

“I was in my garage behind my house when I heard a loud bang,” the resident said, adding that they came outside to see the cause of the sound.

The vehicle is believed to have been parked at the time of the fire.

Firefighters quickly deployed an attack line and used a mixture of water and foam to bring the blaze under control and to ensure the fire was fully extinguished before clearing from the scene.
