Two Residents Displaced Following Hosue Fire in Downtown St. John's

St. John’s, NL – A powerful thunderstorm swept through St. John's and surrounding areas on Wednesday night, triggering multiple emergency calls and widespread power outages.


Just after midnight, firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) responded to a residential structure fire on Pilot’s Hill in Downtown St. John’s. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the upper level of the home.


It appeared that lightning may have struck the residence, causing a fire on or inside the roof. Smoke quickly filled the house, but firefighters were able to bring the situation under control shortly after arriving on scene.


There were no reported injuries. However, two residents were displaced as a result of the incident.


The St. John's Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) were also kept busy responding to muiltple reported fires and alarm bells with their jurisdiction.
