Bay Roberts Fire Rescue is marking a historic first in its 80 years of service to the community, sharing a moment that members say they will never forget.

In the early morning hours of January 14th, 2026, the team responded to a medical call in Shearstown, Bay Roberts. At approximately 1:49 a.m., firefighters Adam Russell, Cole MacDougall, Roy Mercer, Dean Franey, and Andrew Dawe were dispatched to assist a 22-year-old woman in active labour, with EMS initially out of the area.

Upon arrival, EMS members Chelsee Bradbury and Jennifer Earle — who are also members of Bay Roberts Fire Rescue — had just reached the scene and immediately requested assistance, as the birth was imminent.

Working together, both crews provided calm and professional care. At 2:19 a.m., baby Wyatt Jonathan Nicholas Snow was safely welcomed into the world.

The delivery marked the first time Bay Roberts Fire Rescue has assisted in a birth, making it a truly historic moment in the department’s story.

The department said it is extremely proud of everyone involved. In recognition of their teamwork and dedication, all EMS and fire personnel on the call were presented with the Stork Award and a commemorative pin.

Officials say the call represents just one of many stories from 80 years of service and highlights the commitment, training, and compassion members bring to the community every day
