Five people have been displaced after a fire at a home in downtown St. John’s early Saturday morning.
Just after 3:10 a.m. on March 7, firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire at a property on Prince of Wales Street. Officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and paramedics with NL Health Services also responded the scene.
Firefighters from the department’s Central, Kent’s Pond and West End stations responded and arrived to find an active fire burning in an exterior wall of the home near the electrical panel. The fire caused the residence to quickly fill with smoke.
Crews deployed an attack line and were able to bring the fire under control quickly. Firefighters then continued operations inside the home to check for any remaining hot spots and to ventilate smoke from the building.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, however five residents have been displaced due to the damage.
