GARAGE, COMMERCIAL TRUCK AND TRAILER DESTROYED IN HOLYROOD FIRE

Firefighters from multiple departments battled a large structure fire in Holyrood on Monday morning that destroyed a garage, commercial truck, trailer and debris pile.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on May 25, firefighters with Holyrood Fire Rescue were called to a structure fire on Green Acres, located off Conception Bay Highway in Holyrood. When crews arrived on the scene, they were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from a garage. The fire quickly spread to a nearby commercial truck, trailer and surrounding debris.

A short time later, Holyrood Fire Rescue requested mutual aid from the Harbour Main-Chapels Cove-Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department and the Avondale Volunteer Fire Department to assist in containing the blaze.

Firefighters from Harbour Main used their engine to shuttle water back and forth from a fire hydrant located on Conception Bay Highway, supplying Holyrood’s pumper truck as crews continued firefighting operations. A tanker supply unit from Avondale later arrived on the scene, allowing Avondale firefighters to take over water pickup operations while Holyrood and Harbour Main firefighters continued battling the intense fire conditions.

After approximately three hours, firefighters had the majority of the blaze knocked down. Crews remained on scene for several more hours to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire was fully out.

In total, the garage, commercial truck, trailer and debris were completely destroyed in the fire. There was no word on injuries.
