Emergency crews responded to a reported motor vehicle collision on Allendale Road in St. John’s on Saturday morning that resulted in an SUV being destroyed by fire.
At approximately 9:20 a.m. on June 20th, emergency personnel were called to the area of Allendale Road, just south of Higgins Line, following reports of a collision.
Upon arrival, crews located an SUV off the roadway in a ditch that was actively on fire. Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department quickly deployed an attack line and brought the blaze under control. The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the fire.
Initial indications suggest that the occupant or occupants of the SUV fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of emergency responders; however this is not confirmed.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary immediately requested the assistance of Police Dog Services. Once on scene, officers conducted a search of the surrounding area.
At the time of publication, it remains unknown whether anyone was taken into custody and or injured in the matter.
