Vacant Home Severely Damaged in Overnight Fire in St. John's

St. John's N.L - June 8th, A vacant structure on New Penneywell Road was heavily damaged in an overnight fire that drew a large response from emergency crews.


The St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) received the call shortly after 1:00 a.m., after Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) officers on patrol spotted smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure.


Firefighters arrived to find visible flames and thick smoke pouring from the structure. Crews acted quickly to bring the fire under control and extinguish it. The building, which was confirmed to be vacant at the time, sustained significant damage.


There were no injuries reported, and no occupants were displaced as a result of the fire.


Fire crews remained on scene awaiting Newfoundland Power to secure utilities as part of the ongoing investigation. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
