RCMP Traffic Services West arrested a 21-year-old man for impaired operation on Saturday afternoon after stopping a vehicle with an expired registration.

On February 21, just before 3:30 p.m., an officer on patrol in Deer Lake observed a vehicle with snow obstructing its front and rear windshields, and confirmed that its registration had expired. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, a 21-year-old man, showed signs of impairment by alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired operation.

The man was transported to the local RCMP detachment where he provided additional breath samples in excess of the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended.

The man was released from custody and is expected to appear in provincial court in April 2026 on a charge of impaired operation.

Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is an unnecessary and unacceptable choice that can result in serious injury or death. If you suspect a driver is operating impaired, report it by calling 911.
