ADOPT A HYDRANT

With the recent snowfall, many fire hydrants across our communities are buried or blocked by snowbanks.

We’re asking residents to “adopt” a hydrant near their home and help keep it clear.

If there’s a hydrant near you:

- Clear a path from the road to the hydrant

- Clear at least 3 feet around it on all sides

- Make sure it’s visible from the street

Why does this matter?

In an emergency, every second counts. Fire crews need immediate access to hydrants. A buried hydrant can delay water connection by several minutes - and in a structure fire, even 1-2 minutes can make a major difference.

By keeping hydrants clear:

- You help firefighters work faster

- You help protect homes and families

- You improve safety for your entire neighbourhood

If you’re already shoveling your driveway, please consider taking an extra few minutes to clear a hydrant. It can make a big impact.

Let’s work together to keep our communities safe.
