Residents of Labrador will soon no longer have to travel to St. John’s to have fingerprints and a photograph taken for certain immigration applications.

The Provincial Government announced that federal biometrics collection services are expected to become available in Happy Valley-Goose Bay early in 2027.

Biometrics; fingerprints and a photograph, are used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to confirm an applicant’s identity and help assess immigration applications.

Currently, St. John’s is the only location in Newfoundland and Labrador offering the service, meaning people living elsewhere in the province may have to travel significant distances to complete the requirement.

The new Happy Valley-Goose Bay location will become the province’s second biometrics collection site and is expected to reduce travel costs and time for newcomers, workers, students and families living in Labrador.

The service will be provided through a designated Service Canada location, with further details expected before it becomes available.
